I am just about to finish my ...how do i put this delicately... in the john reading and I need some suggestions. Let me hear them. I'm partial to mystery fiction with a twist or non fiction memoirs that tug at the heart.

anything by Nelson Demille should be on your list - lots of local LI settings with lots of action.... Plum Island, Lion's Gate, Nightfall... You've probably read him ,no ?
Oh Honey, if you like mysteries, with a twist, read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels. They are GREAT! One for the Money, Two For the Dough, Three to get Deadly, all the way to # 14 now. http://www.evanovich.com/
Chris, try Plymouth in the Words of her Founders, Massachusetts Tour Book, Vermont Tour Guide, NY, New England, Eyewittness Travel Guides, New England Road Atlas, Fall Foliage, AAA maps.
Chrissy, for bathroom reading, I definitely second Lasal's recommendation. Those Stephanie Plum novels are super light reading, but she is hilarious. Basically, she's a Jersey girl in the 80s turned bounty hunter. She's part of an italian/polish family, and it's a riot.
For something more intense that may keep you up at night, I love James Patterson and Jonathan Kellerman.
If by tug at your heart, you mean become a blubbering, swollen faced mess...try Tim Russert's, Wisdom of Our Fathers. I read it on the plane to NC, the other passengers probably thought I was panic stricken to fly or I forgot my meds! Its a doozy, you will want to hug & kiss Fred for hours after you read it! - Kelly

I'm so out of the loop on reading material. Though I could pretend to be doing bathroom biz just to read, no?
